Reclaim the Hustle

An 11-week journey through the Sermon on the Mount

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matthew 6:33
What would happen if we pursued Jesus with the same intensity we normally give to sports, school, social media, relationships, gaming, and success?

What is the challenge?

Reclaim the Hustle is an 11-week spiritual formation challenge for students who are tired of living distracted, exhausted, anxious, or spiritually disconnected.

Students spend so much time chasing grades, sports, relationships, popularity, achievements, followers, entertainment, and constant busyness. This challenge is about learning how to chase after Jesus first.

The goal is not to stop working hard or caring about life. The goal is to reclaim our time, energy, attention, and ambition for the Kingdom of God. This challenge walks students through the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) in step with our summer sermon series called The Way, inviting them to:

  • A deeper relationship with Jesus
  • Create healthy spiritual habits
  • Live differently than the culture around them
  • Build authentic friendships and community
  • Follow Jesus in everyday life
  • Develop faith that actually lasts

What will each week look like?

Each week, you will be challenged to follow along with a simple daily reading plan. The reading is short for each day on purpose, we will be practicing Lectio Devina, which you’ll find instructions linked HERE and in multiple other locations. We’re not just reading to read. We are reading to spend time with Jesus.

Along with daily reading rhythms, we will have reflections questions to journal along with our reading, a guided prayer for each week (including a morning and evening prayer alongside a prayer for the week), a weekly challenge that is a practical act of obedience or spiritual discipline, and a community practice (something you will be challenged to do with others).

We may “drop-in” teachings, worship songs to listen to, a recommended podcast, or maybe even a video from one of our students and leaders.

What will I need?

  • Bible
  • Journal (If you don't have one, let us know! We will get you one!)
  • Time set aside for prayer every day in the morning and evening
  • Community (That’s us!)
  • Willingness to be challenged
  • Sign up to give us the information we need to send you updates!

11-Week Journey

Each new weekly challenged will be added every week on Monday mornings. If you've signed up for our updates and information, you will receive additional content live throughout the week. Before you look into what's happening through the week, here's some instruction on how to use each piece:

Daily Reading

For each of the daily readings, you will notice that the text provided for each day is short. That's okay! We often get in the habit of trying to read through too much. To Reclaim the Hustle, we need to slow down. Set aside time each day, slow down, and read through the passage using Lectio Devina. Find the instructions for this form of reading HERE.

Weekly Prayer

Each week will have a "weekly prayer." This prayer is very simple on purpose. To get started in a rhythm of prayer we need to start by actually establishing a rhythm. Use this "weekly prayer" in the morning and the evening each day. Set aside time when you wake up and when you go to bed to pray this simple prayer to establish the habit and "reclaim" your heart and mind for Jesus.

Community Practice

The community practice is something that you will be challenged to do each week in... community. This doesn't mean you will have a set community who you have to share with throughout the summer. This practice can be done with friends, a leader, parents, siblings, etc. The challenge is to get out of your comfort zone and do some things with Jesus in community.
Week 1 - The Invitation (June 7-13)
A DIFFERENT KIND OF LIFE

Scripture: Matthew 5:1-12

Big Idea: Jesus completely flips the world's definition of success upside down.

Reading Plan
  • Day 1: Matthew 5:1–3
  • Day 2: Matthew 5:4–5
  • Day 3: Matthew 5:6
  • Day 4: Matthew 5:7–8
  • Day 5: Matthew 5:9–10
  • Day 6: Matthew 5:11–12
  • Day 7: Write out a prayer list and pray for those in your life

Reflection Questions
  • What do I normally define as a successful life?
  • Which beatitude challenges me most?
  • Where do I need to become more dependent on God?

Weekly Prayer
“Jesus, reshape my definition of blessing and teach me to desire Your Kingdom more than worldly success.”

Weekly Challenge
Spend 15 uninterrupted minutes with God every day. Try to be silent and listen. This might be difficult because there are a lot of distractions. Think of something that gets you back in focus. Maybe it's a verse or phrase that draws you back to Jesus.

Community Practice
Share one area with a friend of leader where you feel spiritually or emotionally exhausted.
